WHILE most elected MPs sped off to their respective camps, Madang open MP Nixon Duban stayed back to start making his plans for the next five years.
He will focus on outstanding projects in the three local level governments in his electorate – Ambenob, Transgogol and Madang Urban.
After talking to the people, Duban’s immediate plan is to conduct a six-month due diligence process where projects requiring overseas or national funding are identified.
He also intends to raise the status of the town to be equivalent to a city.
It will require the immediate task of ensuring that the K10 million allocated to seal and for the town’s roads upgrading is properly used.
He will also see that the General Hospital, which has recently been blessed with a K25 million funding, is up to scratch in terms of service delivery to the rural people.
A reclassification of suburbs will also take place meaning that community leaders take ownership of their settlements or suburbs.
He also wants the re-settlement issues are processed in a fair and appropriate manner.
On the issue of ad hoc town beautification programme, Duban plans to involve unemployed youths in all facets of the programme so that they take ownership of  all matters relating to the upkeep of the town’s image.
AusAID will construct and convert the beachfront from Kalibobo to Smugglers, a popular picnic and swimming spot for residents, to a major tourism area.
Duban said the onus was on changing the mindset of the provincial public service machinery.
Duban has extended an invitation to Madang elites to  join him in making Madang beautiful “once again”.
