POLICE Minister Nixon Duban says law and order problems in the country can be addressed if there is enough police manpower.
And he is working on a submission to take to cabinet, recommending that three more training institutions be established in the country to train police officers.
“If we want to contain law and order, we need more police officers,” Duban said.
He said the initiative to have police officers conduct more foot patrols starting in the National Capital District would certainly need more manpower.
“We want our citizens to walk freely at Gordon Market, Boroko and other public places,” he said.
“We are working quietly. It’s a huge organisation. We have a commitment.”
Duban has also urged members of parliament to allocate some money from their district support improvement programme funds to build houses for police officers.
He also urged them to write to him on issues about provincial police commanders.
“All transfers of PPCs are done within the month of November and January,” he said.
“They need proper transfers because they have kids at school and their spouses could be working. It should be done swiftly.”
Duban denied a claim by East Sepik provincial leaders that there was no provincial commander there. He said the province already had one.
