MADANG MP Nixon Duban has submitted his district’s acquittal reports to the Department of Implementation and Rural Development acting secretary Paul Sai’i.
The acquittals are for the District Services Grant 2013 to 2015, and for the District Services Improvement Programme fund for 2014 and 2015.
Duban said 2013 and 2014 were difficult years for the district in terms of the preparation and implementation of development funds.
“There was an unpopular situation for Madang district. We had two recounts and a by-election. I served only for nine months as district MP and was dismissed due to the court of disputed returns,” he said.
“There was no MP to direct the functions of the Joint District Planning and Budget Priority Committee and to oversee the district development priorities.
“As a result, Madang district funding for 2013 was totally at the discretion of the administration with no political leadership.”
Duban said a lot of disturbances and absenteeism affected the clarity of the reports.
He also pointed out the need to educate people about the guidelines on the use of DSIP funds.
Sai’i acknowledged the pace of development progress in the district and promised further partnership.
