MADANG MP Nixon Duban has distributed more than K179,000 to tertiary institutions in Madang as school fee subsidy to Madang district students.

The money was distributed to the Madang Teachers College, Madang Technical College, Lutheran School of Nursing and Divine Word University.

Duban said the assistance was for students who had written to his office asking for help.

“I am assisting with 50% of your fees and as long as I remain your MP, I will continue to assist you,” Duban said.

At Madang Teachers College, Duban gave K35,000 and an extra K5,000 as an apology for not attending the college graduation last year.

He gave K5,855.50 at the Lutheran School of Nursing.

According to the college registrar, Madang Governor Jim Kas had made an arrangement two weeks ago to pay 75% of fees for other Madang students.

Madang Technical College was also given two cheques totalling K57,000.

Divine Word University Madang district students received K47,000 and K29,000 to the Bau Vocational School in Transgogol outside Madang.

Duban encouraged students to put value in their studies and avoid getting involved in law and order situations as the government was looking at tougher penalties for law-breakers.
