THE National Capital District Suburban Ducks are the second team from Southern region to affiliate to the Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup.

At the Port Moresby Rugby League oval CCIC chief executive officer Timothy Lepa accepted the registration and affilation fee of K5,000 from NCD Suburban Sports Association chairman Billy Aki on behalf of the Suburban Ducks.

The other Southern region team that has met the requirement is Porebada village-based team, Maiari Eagles.

Apart from these two teams another six will come from the 2013 PRL grand finalists, South Settlement league, Lagatois and another two from the rural leagues in Central province.

Lepa said that he has given the smaller rural grass roots league in Southern region an opportunity to participate in this grassroots event to showcase their talents.

“We are not focusing on the city league as they are given the opportunity to compete in the semi-professional Digicel Cup,” Lepa said.

Lepa said the CCIC is a recruiting base for Enga Mioks, Simbu Warriors, Mendi Muruks and Mount Hagen Eagles.

So far it has produced players like David Loko, Esau Siune and Noel John to name few and others will be identified in January when the CCIC tournament starts.
