PEOPLE living in the Works compound in Mt Hagen city now have access to a water supply.

More than 50 people had been without a proper supply for more than 10 years.

But thanks to the support of Minister for Petroleum and Energy and local MP William Duma which has seen the delivery of the service to them.

Duma pumped in K55,000 to Water PNG to connect water supply to the area.

Water PNG business manager Stanley Kewa said people there had been without a water supply as most of them had their meters removed because of illegal connections over the years.

“It is not Duma’s responsibility to connect water supply into every homes but it is the peoples,” he said.

“If you have a house then you should know that water is life and try hard to have water supply, that means you have to use your own resources.”

He said Duma had a good heart, which was why he had taken up the responsibility.

“You are lucky to have this service and my appeal to you is to pay your bill and look after your meter.”

He said Water PNG had disconnected water supply to many areas in the city because of illegal connections.

Kewa said with the disconnection exercise many people did not have water supply in their homes and they were used to carrying containers to fetch water.

“But now you should thank your MP who has helped you by restoring it..

“It is a relief and a gift to you from him,” Kewa said.
