The National, Friday March 4th, 2016
TWO Nabak men were reportedly killed in connection with the murder of a Kabwum woman in the mountains of Gobari, Nawaeb district, Morobe.
Las Saturday, people from Nabak retaliated and burned down several houses belonging to Kabwum people at Bumayong following the men’s death.
Law and order committee leader Francis Masiang urged the community leaders from the two groups to stop the fighting and allow police to investigate.
Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr last month reported that the body of a mother of four was discovered on Feb 16 at a mountain ridge in Gobari, after missing for four days.
The deceased from Kabwum, a 30-year-old widow, accompanied some women from Bumayong to their gardens at Gobari on Feb 9. However, she never returned home.
Masiang said Criminal Investigation Department officers from the rural patrol unit and Met Superintendent command are investigating the two cases.
A source who requested not to be named said the prime suspect in the murder of the woman disappeared, but his body was later found in Busu River and taken to Angau Memorial Hospital morgue. Some Kabwum women, who went to their gardens last week, were told to go home and wait for the situation to calm down.
However, a group of Kabwum people mobilised and returned the next day to Marambi Bridge, where they attacked and killed the man who warned the women against returning to Bumayong.
Wagambie said tension inthe area was still high.
