Duo sign-up as Pacific Games ambassadors
The National, Thursday February 19th, 2015
Two more athletes have signed up as 2015 Pacific Games ambassadors — bringing the total to six out of the 10 slots available, with the other four soon to be engaged.
Following the ambassadors programme announcement early this month, the Games Organising Committee named leading women’s golfer Kristine Seko and Pepes’ captain Winnie Mavara as the latest athlete representatives.
“Both athletes have a lot of games experiences and have represented the country at international events in their respective sports,” GOC chief executive officer Peter Stewart said.
“The committee is confident that they will do an amazing job to promote their sport and the Pacific Games as a whole.
“The aim of the Games Ambassador programme is to give the public an insight into the various sports through the eyes of the athletes as they prepare, so that people can relate to the Games and enjoy it.”
Stewart said the ambassadors would play an important role in promoting all sports by sharing their experiences and giving an insight into what their teams were doing in preparation for the Games.
He said it was an opportunity for the people to get to know their local sports personalities and be able to identify them as they prepare to represent their country.
