SKIPPER Raymond Gunemba claimed two assists and a goal to help Lae City Dwellers beat rookies Sepik 6-1 in round four of the National Soccer League on Saturday.
The Dwellers-Sepik clash was the first Nothern Conference match of the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium triple-header in Lae.
After 27 minutes of football, Sepik No.1 Ishmael Maddang was lured out of his goalmouth which allowed Raymond to provide a through ball for Ronald Tovot to score his first goal of the season.
Peter Gunemba-coached Dwellers then added their second goal through Morsie Milubwa who headed home a corner kick by 35-year-old Raymond.
The hosts then added third goal in the 44th minute through Solomon Mapai for a 3-0 at halftime.
Papua New Guinea international Raymond was again at his best in the 61 minute to set Juvestus Sakai to extend Dwellers’ lead to 4-0.
Substitutes Freddy Steven and Alex Kamen, with their first touches of the ball, combined to increase the hosts’ lead to 5-0.
But that did not stop the visitors as they played their hearts out and earned a consolation goal from Nathan Loi who beat Dwellers goalkeeper Gabby Kasir to trail 1-5.
Raymond sealed the win with a goal of his own in the 76th minute.
“I’m happy with the team performance but still we lacked in some areas,” he said.
“We need to work harder for our next match.
“The confidence in holding onto possession is an area we need to work on.
“We had lapses that made it hard for us.
“I became frustrated as I had to work harder to organise the team which was an extra burden on me.
“But I’m happy with the win and hope my men improve as the season progresses.” Result: Dwellers 6 (Ronald Tovot, Morsie Milubwa, Solomon Mapai, Juvestus Sakai, Alex Kamen, Raymond Gunemba goals) Sepik 1 (Nathan Loi goal); Halftime – 3-0 (Dwellers).
