FIVE-TIME National Soccer League (NSL) champions Lae City Dwellers are making a comeback to the country’s premier football competition to help develop the sport in the country, says coach Peter Gunemba. He told The National that their focus was to develop young players who had little chance of playing with other franchises in the Papua New Guinea Football Association’s flagship competition. “We are looking forward to helping develop football in the country and our squad comprises 12 NSL-experienced players and a couple of men from Morobe United,” Gunemba said. “Half of the squad are made up of young talents. About nine are Under-20 players and my aim for them is to eventually carry on from where our old hands leave off. “It is for this reason that we have many young players despite requests from some experienced players to join the squad. “I’ve stuck with the young players to learn from experienced players like Mosie Milubwa, Raymond Gunemba and others.”He said the club had Raymond, Milubwa, Valentine Nelson, Matheson Nasa, Eddie Malagu, Golopaul Albert, Clement Peka, Freddy Steven, John Kitchani and Alex Roy Kamen in their roster. Gunemba said he was confident that his squad would give a good challenge to the established clubs like Lae City and Hekari United as part of an effort to help raise the standard of football in the country. “We thank PNGFA for accepting our expression of interest to compete in the NSL,” he said. “We will give our best to help develop soccer in the country as we have the experience, given we were the premiers between 2015 and 2019.”Meanwhile, Gunemba said they would do their best to secure sponsorship. He said Dwellers needed the support of the Morobe government and Lae MP as they were the pride of Morobe and ward three in Lae Urban local-level government area.
