TWENTY-ONE administration staff of the Divine Word University upgraded their computing skills at the Madang campus recently.
They received their certificates after a week-long course.
The staff upgraded their ‘end user computing and basics on Moodle’ – a centrally supported learning management system used at DWU as a learning platform to deliver course content in blended and fully online modes.
This computing skills was vital to assist students better. DWU Moodle administrator and staff training facilitator Kimberly Kobal said the course targeted administration staff whose line of duty involved providing support for students.
She said the participants had some prior computer experience and were looking to enhance their skills.
“They know the technology before them,” Kobal said.
“They know how to login into the internet and they know how to use the computer.”
Kobal said the training enhances the computer skills and internet understanding the staff already poses.
“I have just introduced them to some options that they have not known before,” Kobal said.
She said one example was of using formulas on Excel spreadsheets instead of calculators.
Kobal said the participants were satisfied that using formulas had increased their response rate to queries from thestudents.
Irene Wrakuale, the executive officer to dean of the Faculty of Education, was one of the participants. She said the coiurse “was an eye opener” for her.
