Eagles feast on Isapea

THE Gulf Isapea have fallen again, this time 32-4 to the Mt Hagen Wamp Nga Eagles in round two of rugby league’s Digicel Cup at the Rebiamul Oval in Mt Hagen yesterday.

The Isapea started well, showing tight defence and good ball skills to keep the Eagles scoreless for 30 minutes.

The Eagles first try came from halfback Skipper Mel and a successful conversion by the five-eighth Lionel Ongi.

Four minutes before half-time, Eagles second row Laima Pora broke into opposition territory and passed to right wing Junior Rau, who dashed in for another try that was converted to lead 12-0.

Isapeas lock and captain Barry Pakea, outside centre Jason Koivi, prop Zachery Simbai, inside centre Nelson Wallen and five-eighth Lawrence Tuu showed strong defence and encouraged their team mates not to make silly handling errors.

Eagles captain and Kumul Jason Tali picked a dropped ball on his try-line and ran 80-metre to score.

Tali’s breakthrough encourages o his team mates and fullback Joe Joshua added another six points from a converted try.

Isapea halfback Joshua Thomas retaliated with an unconverted try.

However, Eagles inside centre David Kawage added another converted try and captain Tali sealed the score board with another unconverted try, to trump the Isapea 32-4.
