THE Mt Hagen Wamp Nga Eagles management have thanked the Bintangor Goroka Lahanies and Simbu TNA Lions for hosting two trail Digicel Cup matches at their home grounds to prepare teams for the season opener next week.

They said the matches had enabled them to better screen weaknesses in their ryugby league team.

The Wamp Nga Eagles board believes trial matches are the way forward because many raw talents had yet to get a feel of the semi-professional game.

Eagles team manager Bob Pakindi said the trial matches had given confidence and experience to many players.

Pakindi said the Eagles would focus on correcting mistakes as they tried to bring a perfect team into the competition.

“These trail matches are the foundation and I hope the Lions and Lahanis have figured out their mistakes too.”

He said Eagles would take on the Snax Tigers in Lae next weekend and the management was relying on coach Joe Tep and trainer John Waka to prepare the team.

Pakindi said Kumuls three-quarter and Eagles captain Jason Tali would lead the team.

He said Tali would be helped by forwards Laima Pora and Sent Angra.

“This is what Eagles will rely on to create a very strong team and I believe it can give a good challenge,” he said.

The Eagles missed out on the top five last year finishing sixth.
