Eagles swoop on poor Cats

WEST Eagles pulled off a thrilling 29-point victory over Cats in their R ound 2 Esi Loan Port Moresby AFL clash at the Colts Oval on Saturday.
It was their all-round experience that worked wonders for the Eagles to romp home with 9.7 (61) to 5.2 (32) victory.
Eagles had too much power in the aerial contests and maintained ball security with minimal errors to have the edge on their opponents.
PNG Mosquitos stalwart Greg Ekari, later named man-of-the-match, played a major role with his left-foot deliveries.
The Kerema man combined with Kila Rawali to restrict Cats’ ball winner and main threader Kelly Kaugla.
Kaugla was kept quiet for the best part of the match and could do little to pull the Cats out of trouble.
The Eagles started strongly with the wind and nailed four goals and two behinds to take a handy lead at the end of the first quarter to the Cats lone goal.
The Cats booted three back-to-back goals in the second frame while restricting the Eagles to a goal and a behind to cut the deficit to 5.3 (33) to 4.0 (24) at half time.
The third quarter was an even tussle with Cats nailing 1.1 and Eagles scooping 1.3 to maintain their lead 6.6 (42) to 5.1 (31).
The Eagles sealed the match in the final quarter with Ekari and Rawali dominating with three goals and a behind.
