Early childhood learning way to go

Letters

EARLY childhood learning is the pedagogy of developing the learning capabilities of children before they start their formal years of schooling.
Most early childhood learning are referred to as kindergarten, day cares or preschool learning.
Last August, the National Executive Council approved the country’s first early childhood learning policy for implementation.
I believe that this is a step in the right direction in terms of improving the education standards in the country.
One of the difficulty faced by our children is communication when trying to understand concepts taught in a foreign language (English).
Children are taught two to three different languages prior to enrolment and adjusting to another language can be quite challenging, especially for children in our rural areas.
Most households speak more than two languages and English is not even close to being the vernacular that is recognised in today’s society.
Early childhood learning, if properly funded, would provide essential learning materials that would benefit every children before formal education.
With a well-funded early childhood learning system, parents who lack funding to send their children to expensive private schools can share the same benefits as others who can afford that.
