TWELVE trainee teachers from  Wafi-Golpu, Morobe, have completed an early childhood and induction training.

Bulolo district education services, in partnership with Morobe Mining, delivered the week-long training that ended last Friday.

The aim was to equip the trainees with basic skills and knowledge on the early childhood education concept to better understand children and how to deal with their learning processes.

The course covered 11 topics – child development; caring for children; the elementary teacher; curriculum to lessons; teaching methods; culture and community; school administration; pupil assessment and reporting; material production; HIV/AIDS awareness and phonics.

“We understand that education is the foundation of any development and we need it to develop our children for the future,” trainee teacher Kekwasingo Mek .

District education advisor John Tjipet said the academic results of schools in Bulolo improved over the years and thanked Morobe Mining for its contribution to improving education in the district.

He encouraged the trainees to always think “quality” and to take ownership of the opportunities provided.

The trainees were selected to attend the training based on their level of education and their ability to speak the local vernacular fluently.

Morobe Mining’s community and rural development manager Benjamin Kamaya commended the teachers for their passion and commitment to helping their communities.

“You all have committed much of your time to this, and on behalf of Morobe Mining, I say thank you,” he said.
