Earthquake jolts East New Britain and Islands region

 RESIDENTS in Kokopo, East New Britain, were jolted by an earth tremor measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale last Friday morning.

As people were starting off their Friday morning, the quake made some people stop to observe the swaying of the earth beneath their feet.

The earthquake occurred at approximately 9.33am with an epicentri of 103km south-south-west of Kokopo with a depth of 55km.

Locations in other provinces that felt the aftershocks of the earthquake included 196km east-north-east of Kimbe, 314km south-south-east of Kavieng, 420km west-north-west of Arawa and 699km northeast of Port Moresby.

As yet, there have been no reports of casualties and damage caused by the earthquake in East New Britain.
