WOMEN of Gaulim in Inland Baining, Gazelle, East New Britain, have welcomed the rice farming project introduced by two organisations into the area.
Gaulim women’s representative Luamin Eremas said the rice farming project was introduced by the New Zealand Volunteer Services Abroad and the Organisation for Industrial Spiritual and Cultural Advancement (Oisca).
Eremas said the only source of income for women was from peanuts.
She thanked the two organisations for introducing rice farming.
“As women, we work very hard to grow and sell peanuts because we know that it is our source of income,” she said.
“Now with rice, we are happy because we can sell rice and keep some for family consumption. We do not need to buy rice,” Eremas said.
“It is a blessing to us.”
