East Sepik elects deputy governor

 MAPRIK Wora local level government president Ian Samuel has been elected deputy governor of East Sepik.

Samuel polled 17 votes in a secret ballot conducted at the East Sepik Provincial Assembly chamber. 

He beat Wewak rural local level government president Francis Hevu by five votes.

Samuel urged all presidents to work with him in improving the cash economy in rural areas and the service delivery mechanism in the province.

Governor Sir Michael Somare \named provincial executive council members and their allocated portfolios. 

He will be in charge of finance, administration and public service.

Samuel will be in charge of agriculture and livestock, Edward Swaiman gets LLG, district service and village courts, James Haurom has Fisheries and Marine Resources, Paul Mathias is in charge of Forestry, Seth Mongon gets Health and HIV/AIDS, and Geoffery Waffi heads Education and Human Resource Development.

Other appointments include Wewak town mayor Charles Malenki looks after Community Development, Sports and Culture, Housing and Urbanisation, Konny Philip (Commerce, Trade and Industry and Tourism), Willie Jangi (Law and Order), 

Melchior Safuma (Lands, Mining, Petroleum and Communication), Michael Kombo (Works, Transport and Energy Development) and Jimmy Korei is Environment, Conservation and Climate Change chairman.
