THE Wingei Cluster Elementary School in East Sepik has gone a step further in phonics.
Elementary coordinator for Yangoru Rueben Suagu, speaking at the school’s seventh graduation at Belmo Elementary, praised the school for being well-organised.
The Wingei cluster is made up of Belmo, Wingei Central and Yangisaku elementary schools.
Suagu said the Wingei Cluster Elementary was one of the lucky schools in the province to introduce phonics in its teaching programme.
He said the school had gone to its second phase in phonics programme compared to other schools in the province.
The programme was endorsed by East Sepik elementary coordinator Philip Inambari last year.
Wingei Cluster Elementary graduated its first phonics elementary two students this year.
Cluster chairman, Samuel Wasinak said the students who were taught phonics could now speak and write better English compared to other students.
He said the students could use different sounds to spell words. Phonics trainer, Joshua Jinganiea said there were two types of phonics.
The students at Wingei are taught British and Australian phonics.
He said this was the second year for Yangoru-Sausia to be taught phonics in elementary schools.
