COCA-Cola Amatil (PNG) has donated K2,000 to support the 2009 East Sepik Rugby League 9s tournament in Wewak which runs for two weekends starting this Saturday followed by the finals scheduled for Dec 5.
The soft drink giant under its flagship brand, Coca-Cola, will have exclusive rights and distribution of beverages during the rugby league 9s challenge.
Coca-Cola sales manager for Sepik region Enoch Perazim said Coca-Cola Amatil recognised the importance of partnering with the community at large and sports was an avenue to strengthen this pillar.
“On this occasion, Coca-Cola Amatil (PNG) is proud to have identified the rugby league 9s challenge and encourages good leadership as a foundation to the rugby league 9s event.
“It will also ensure that this event is violence-free and promotes an environment where families and all from the community can come to be a part of this event,” Perazim said.
Perazim added the games were for the youth to showcase their talents and skills through the rugby league 9s challenge.
The chairman of the 2009 East Sepik Rugby League 9s Challenge, Dickson Koyingu said the support from Coca-Cola came after a dry spell of the rugby league in East Sepik for the last 10-15 years.
The code is now working on reactivating the code through the PNG Rugby Football League in the near future to bring back the interest.
