SCHOOLS in East Sepik are expected to receive the provincial government component of the 2012 school fee subsidy this week while they wait for the arrival of the second batch of the national government subsidy, provincial education adviser Joseph Auli said last Friday.
Auli did not disclose how much he would receive but said it would be just enough to keep schools running until the national government component was electronically transferred to all school accounts.
“It’s about K7.50 for a child from grades 3 to 5, K10 per head for Grades 7 and 8, Grades nine and 10 it will be K60 for boarding students and K40 day students, Grades 11 and 12 will be paid K90 per head,” he said.
“This provincial government component covers over 60,000 students from all primary and secondary schools in the province.”
He said money for the national government’s second batch of the subsidy was ready but its release to the schools would depend on the schools’ census forms.
The census was conducted in March.
“The first 60% of the subsidies released by the national government early this year was based on last year’s census but for schools to qualify for the second 40%, they must ensure that all data, which include this year’s census forms and the schools’ accounts are correct,” Auli said.
