THE East Taraka touch rugby competition will have their grand final on Sunday. More than 200 youths have been participating over the past two months.
Competition coordinator Joe Bal said the competition was initiated after the uprising in the city last year which restricted residents from moving around and left some living in fear.
Bal said the competition attracted students and young men residing in the area to engage in sporting activities.
The competition, which started last December, had 10 teams competing in the A and B grades.
With the support of lawyer Kelly Naru, teams will be walking away with prizemoney and awards.
The grand final on Sunday will feature Army Tattoo who are aiming to defend their title in the A grade.
They have also eager to win the B grade title after a strong run throughout the season.
They will be facing Rebels who are looking forward to spoil their party. In the B grade, they will meet Mistakes who are going in as the underdogs. However, they should not be written off because they are capable of pulling an upset.
If Rebels and Mistakes manage to turn the tables on Army Tattoo the red hot favourites, they will walk away with the cup.
Mistakes comprise players from Dump Strugglers, the defending premiers who banned from the competition after winning the B grade final last year.
“The cup for the A grade will be played for the next four seasons,” Bal said.
