MORE than 2,000 members from 18 Catholic parishes in Lae city, Morobe, led a float carrying a cross to mark Easter.
As part of the procession 30 youths from the All Saints Catholic church at Bumbu settlement took part in a play depicting the suffering Christ endured on his way to his crucifixion.
The theme of the event was “Strive for healing, loving, caring and sharing, do it for him” extracted from the Gospel of Mathew 25:40.
Many of the throng of faithful were in tears as they prayed, read passages from the Bible and sang hymns and chorals as they followed narrator Joseph Asiman to each station along the road.
The float began at Bumbu settlement at 6am, went through Butibam village to Kamkumung, Eriku, Snack Bar and Angau Memorial Hospital before ending at St Mary’s Top Town Cathedral at noon.
The huge Cross of Salvation depicting Good Friday was placed on a truck given by the Lae Biscuit Company Ltd.
Other parish members carried replicas of the cross as they joined the march.
Asiman and All Saints Catholic church chairman Michael Hebei led the procession.
A different parish will lead the procession next year.
