KUNDIAWA-Gembogl MP Tobias Kulang was yesterday arrested by police at a roadblock at Watabung as he was driving away from an election-related fight in Kundiawa.
Police alleged the culture, arts and tourism minister was a suspect responsible for the fight that ended in two men being killed, and two vehicles and a high-covenant house being burnt.
Eastern Highlands police commander Superintendent Alex N’Drasal confirmed Kulang’s arrest after they were alerted by Chimbu police.
He said they directed Watabung police to set up a roadblock and arrested Kulang as he was heading to Goroka.
According to witnesses in Kundiawa, a fight erupted between supporters of other Kundiawa-Gembogl candidates and supporters of incumbent MP Kulang over two disputed ballot boxes.
The boxes were set aside from counting. After the elimination process, a court order was issued for the boxes to be counted.
Meanwhile, police said three people were killed and several others believed to be unaccounted for in a post election-related fight between rival candidates in the Asaro area in Daulo, Eastern Highlands.
