THE Electoral Commission is preparing to conduct the local level government elections in April.
Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato told The National that dates for the issue of writs had been announced by the Minister for Inter-government Relations Kevin Isifu.
“Our job is to deliver the elections and we have already commenced preparatory works and look forward to having it done successfully,” Gamato said.
The Government has allocated K100 million for the elections which were deferred from last year because of the Apec Leader’s Summit. Prime Minister Peter O’Neill told Parliament last month that there would be no more deferrals.
Writs will be issued on Thursday, April 25.
Nominations close on Thursday, May 2. Polling starts on Thursday, May 9 and ends on Wednesday May 22.
The writs are expected to be returned on or before Thursday, June 13.
