EDA Ranu has denied reports that one of their leaking pipes caused the eventual collapse of a new K30 million road at 5 mile in the National Capital District.

A report in The National yesterday quoted the contractor, Hebou Construction, as saying that a leaking pipe was the cause of the damaged road.

The company said it would take three months to repair the damage to the road that links to the Erima Junction.

However, Eda Ranu general manager operations Joseph Toaki said: “Eda Ranu bluntly denies the claim made by Hebou Construction that the cause of the collapse of the road was caused by our leaking pipe.

“Eda Ranu was only just installing a new water pipe and had turned the main valve off before installing the new pipe which of course runs through the concrete wall that cracked.

“The cause of the road that collapsed was because that part the section of the road is a gully (valley like) slope that allows water, when it rains from both sides, to sink in the soil and then eventually coming out from the other side of the road.

“The road was under the supervision of the NCDC engineering and management division all the time and they or Hebou are the ones responsible for the road.”

It is understood that officials from the NCDC’s engineering division met with Eda Ranu and Hebou Construction late yesterday afternoon to resolve the issue.
