PORT Moresby water and sewerage service provider Eda Ranu has signed a deal with its counterpart in Seoul, South Korea – the Office of Waterworks – Seoul Metropolitan Government.
The memorandum of agreement covering three years focuses on bilateral interest in capacity building, particularly staff training in the technical fields of water and sewerage services.
Further details on the MoU will be developed to cover areas such as water quality management and non-revenue water (NRW) system of network control and monitoring.
Eda Ranu was one the state-owned entities invited by the Department of Commerce and Industry to attend the PNG investment road show in South Korea last month.
The three-day seminar, held at the Koreana Hotel from July 23-25, was organised jointly with the Energy Corporation of South Korea and Korea Investment and Trade (Kotra).
With the theme “Opening up investment opportunities for PNG and the Republic of Korea”, the seminar aimed to echo this important message across all participants: that Papua New Guinea has an unprecedented potential for South Korean investors especially during this time of resource boom in the country.
There were presentations by various government departments and state-owned entities, followed by discussions on better insights into business and investment opportunities in strengthening economic and bilateral relations that exist between the two countries.
Eda Ranu was represented by acting chairman Haoda Rogea, chief executive officer Billy Imar and business and administration manager Stephen Sallun.
The PNG delegation included Secretary for Works Joel Luma, acting chief executive of National Fisheries Authority John Kasu, managing director of Petromin Joshua Kalinoe, chief executive of Port Moresby General Hospital Sam Vegogo, representatives from Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) and Transport and Foreign Affairs departments.
The team also attended an expo in Yesou City to celebrate the PNG Remembrance Day and visited a shipping yard and a motor vehicle factory.
