THE Papua New Guinea Teachers’ Association maintains that the cost of education is a shared responsibility between parents and the Government.

General secretary Ugwalubu Mowana said: “There are people who are concerned about the absence of tuition fee-free fund in school accounts and that is a revelation. I call on the Government to ensure all schools are given the benefit of TFF funding,” Mowana said.

“This is to see that schools are able to deal with students and purchase teaching and learning materials when they start.”

He said the funding to schools in the absence of parental components or school fees was important therefore, the Government should quickly put the money to schools to start the academic year.

“On project fees, PNGTA maintains that cost of education is a shared responsibility for both the parents and the state. The Education board has endorsed the submission which has gone to cabinet.”
