President of the Sinivit local level government in Pomio, East New Britain, Boniface Gerep has appealed to youths in the district to make use of education opportunities.
Speaking at a church gathering recently, he said: “We see you as our future. The future of this nation lies in your hands.”
Gerep said the national youth policy had indicated that 69 per cent of young people who had gone into any form of small-scale business, did not have a regular income and 46.9 per cent “do not go to school”.
“I believe that most of you in Pomio have tried your best to receive an education. I also believe that God has a plan and purpose for you to be successful in whatever you do,” he told the gathering.
“You have to trust God and work hard to earn an honest and peaceful living.”
Gerep told the youths that education was the key to a better life.
“The government has prioritised free education. Those of you who are in the rural areas should grab this opportunity,” he said.
