Education seen as shared duty between parents and teachers

THE education of children is a shared responsibility between the parents, government and schools, says a principal in Jiwaka.
To that end, parents should work with the school board and administration to ensure students receive a quality education, said Fr Peter Fatima Secondary School principal John Kandil Aipeta.
He was speaking to the parents at the school on Monday.
The school is run by the Catholic Church and is one of the oldest schools in Western Highlands and Jiwaka.
Aipeta said parents have a responsibility to send their children to school and meet their needs and teach them good character.
“We must all work together to help educate our children to be good citizens of this country,” Aipeta said.
“Drugs, homebrew and other bad influences are destroying our young people and we have a duty to direct them in the right path.”
He said parents will pay a small component of the school fee to help the administration run the school because government funding has not yet been received.
