Education tops Gazzelle list

Education is an important priority for Gazelle district under its development plan, says an official with the district development authority (DDA).
Project officer Nason Palon said a total of K250,000 for fee subsidies was set aside by Gazelle MP Jelta Wong for tertiary students around the country this year.
However, payments to the various selected institutions have been delayed this year due to the roll out of the government’s new accounting system – the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) – that promotes transparency and accountability.
Palon said the funding went through numerous endorsements to validate the money to be sourced using the IFMS.
Ten of the institutions around the country have received the payments while others are yet to receive theirs.
These institutions that received their fees were Kokopo Business College, University of Natural Resources and Environment, Divine Word University, University of Technology, Melanesian Training Institute, University of PNG, St Peter’s Channel, Kabaleo Teacher’s College, Madang Teachers’ College, Port Moresby Technical College, Bulolo University College and New Horizon Computer Learning Centre.
