Education vital factor for prosperous future, Sir Julius says

Education

EDUCATION is the single most important factor to guarantee a prosperous future for the people, New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan says.
Sir Julius told the International Training Institute graduation in Kavieng last week that with education and knowledge, they could stand up to anyone in the world and fit in as part of the international community.
“And that is what you are doing here,” he said.
“You are developing the kinds of skills that the most advanced students in America, England or Australia develop.
“So when you learn those skills you become a different person.
“You become a person who is in demand in the business world; who can earn a living.
“You become a person who can support your families and provide them with the things they need to live a good life.
“That is not a small thing and you should all be proud.”
Sir Julius said skills and knowledge could also help develop communities, provinces and the country.
He said they were familiar with computers and internet which opened them up to the world.
“Being comfortable on a computer means you are no longer limited to your village, Kavieng, New Ireland or Papua New Guinea,” he said. “Rather, you are connected with the entire world, which means that you have become a citizen of the world.”
He said computers and the internet should be used for good reasons and not to spread rumours, lies and to defame others.
“Your skills can help us to change the way PNG works.”
