ABOUT 300 elementary school teachers in East New Britain are yet to be included on the payroll by the Education Department.

Provincial education adviser Pius Gawi blamed it on the teacher education division at the department.

In regards to elementary teacher training for the transition from the outcomes-based to the standards-based curriculum, he said it was not effective.

“We used to have distant mode training where teachers participate in teaching and then they are trained for six weeks where they complete their assessments,” he said.

“But we have 122 teachers who have completed training two to three years ago and are still not on the payroll.” Gawi said the teacher education division was not doing its job.

“They have given the training to PNG Education Institution and to the elementary sector wing.”
