AN effective credit scheme is the best way to help the grassroots start their own income-generating projects, Maprik MP John Simon said on Monday.
Speaking at the launch of the Maprik district credit scheme, Simon said his office had allocated at least K1 million to loan out to the local people.
The money was deposited with the National Development Bank (NDB), which would loan out the funds to qualified borrowers.
Simon promised to beef up the loan funds every year.
“My job as your National MP is to create funding opportunities for business so you can apply for loan with the NDB under the cheap credit programme,” Simon told the people who gathered during the ceremony.
“There are many business opportunities for you to get involved … all you have to do is write up your business proposal and my office will screen them  for feasibility.”
He said those proposals with merits would be endorsed to the NDB for funding.
Simon said his budget priority committee had earmarked at least K500,000 for the Maprik District Business Association Committee.
The fund came from the district services improvement programme (DSIP).
“You must have a seed capital to start your business and my office will help you to achieve  your plans,” Simon said.
