EHP clearly experiencing downward spiral

The National, Friday 13th of February 2015

THE appointment of Solomon Tato to the top public service post in Eastern Highlands deserves scrutiny.

The outburst by the governor against the national executive committee’s decision is a gesture of lack of cohesion between the national and the provincial executive committees.

That assumption holds true if Tato was not the PEC’s shortlisted choice.

The street talk that our prime minister has a ‘kitchen cabinet’ may hold some grounds, since it is obvious that a number of MPs, especially from EHP, assume that they are his godfather and elite Eastern Highlanders are not blind to this panorama.

Our governor began well with her bottom-up approach development plans, which received applause and thumbs-up from many citizens.

Her rhetoric on this super idea, so she said, was to be implemented with the fast-tracking of a new permanent provincial administrator.

It is now painfully obvious that her super idea is on track to collect dust as she now has to cope with an unpopular administrator.

Furthermore, the impact of nearly K130 million at her disposal from successive annual government funding as well as the amount left by the former governor is presumably still in her bilum to be delivered as a mama to the 700,000 people of EHP.

People of Okapa, Kainantu, Lufa, Daulo and Goroka complain about their MPs’ performances and wish for them to show projects they have instituted worth approximately K40 million from various government grants over the years.

Clearly, EHP is on track to see more regress than progress as more governance immorality grips the rank and file of the public service machinery, thanks to pretentious politicians, clumsy advisory services to the governor and perhaps, more so by an illegitimately appointed provincial administrator.

I beg my fellow Eastern Highlanders to hold onto your lifeboats since our ship has lost its direction and gone off the radar, thanks to our captains who have lost the battle in their cabins.
