EASTERN Highlands province will observe the World AIDS Day today, according to Provincial AIDS Council.
Ruth Paliau, the president of Eastern Highlands Provincial AIDS Council (PAC) yesterday distributed cartons of condoms to organisations which were involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
She said a number of celebrations would be staged at different districts which focus on awareness against the dreaded disease.
“A small group of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) will be in the fore front of the campaign during the commemoration,” Ms Paliau said.
She called on people, groups and organisations, including Government agencies, to collaboratively push on, in the fight against the disease.
A series of activities would be staged to mark the World AIDS Day in the province’s capital Goroka.
A red ribbon has been placed in front of the Yanepa provincial government building that signalled that the province was determined to fight the dreaded disease.
Some of the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the province will also stage their own celebrations.
There will also be celebrations in the eight districts headed by their respective district AIDS council.
