Eight overseas cyclists are in New Ireland to raise funds to help Australian doctors continue their work in remote parts of the country.
The riders from Australia, New Zealand and Singapore participated in Pedal4PNG to raise funds for Australian doctors in remote areas of the country.
Director public relations and media of New Ireland provincial government, Monica Harris, said the riders raised funds to allow Australian Doctors International (Adi) to continue its patrol work across the country.
Harris said the riders, together with locals, completed the 260km distance from Namatanai to Kavieng over three days.
The first 50km leg covered the distance to Rubio Resort, the second 90km leg was at Fissoa where they were warmly welcomed by the locals, while the third and final leg took them to Kavieng.
Riders Theresa Reu, Dr Ian Hunter, Daryl Connelly, Dr Sue Craig, Judy Brain, Jon Tan, Kathy Hamilton and Lesley Cox are long-time supporters of both New Ireland and Adi.
Harris said the riders spent time visiting health clinics along the Boluminski Highway.
