EIGHT provincial teams have confirmed their participation at next month’s Brothers Rugby Sevens tournament in Port Moresby.
The Kramer Ausenco-sponsored club is hosting the tournament as part of its 40 years anniversary celebrations on March 8-9 with 17 teams confirmed, nine of them Port Moresby clubs.
The outside teams are Aroma Coast, Goroka Silverbacks, Black Orchids, Kimbe Rebels One, Kimbe Rebels Two, Gulf and Daru Stingrays.
The Port Moresby teams are Harlequins, Wanderers, Nova, University, Jaggernaunts, Chiefs, Spartans, Brothers 1 and Brothers 2.
The women’s inclusion in the tournament should add flavor to the two-day tournament.
Club vice president Johnny Passingan yesterday the organising committee had approved the inclusion of the women’s division which should provide yet another feast of top rugby and anticipates more teams to join this event.
“It is a celebration of 40 years of club rugby and we will make sure it will be a rugby festival,” Passingan said.
Passingan said Brothers, Spartans and Chiefs have confirmed and invitations were still open to other teams.
The registration deadline has been extended to next Monday, February 24.
The winner walks away K10,000 richer, a long time in between drinks that a sevens tournament Port Moresby has attracted some healthy prize money since the MRDC Sevens and Wanderers Sevens some years back.
