Eight police officers charged with offences

EIGHT police officers in Port Moresby have been charged with various offences including drinking at the station and damaging properties, according to a senior officer.
Officer in charge of the Police Policing Unit Inspt Robert Wane told The National that in the past four weeks, officers were arrested and charged for various offences, including the Erima shooting incident. He said the eight policemen were from various stations and police units in Port Moresby.
He said one officer escaped from the station after being allowed out of the cell.

  • They cannot even speak or write English. Good for drinking alcohol and abusing their authority only. Good for carrying and hiding behind a gun. Anybody can carry a firearm and anybody can discharge it. Only properly trained professional with proper brains know how to use a firearm… Start drug & alcohol testing all police personnel every day before they start work and when they sign off. Then you will see the real figure of these uniformed hooligans who abuse the uniform..

  • Crimes are increasing in an alarming rate because they themselves are the cause. What will the public say if this kind of cruel act is exhibited everyday? if they themselves don’t follow rules and regulations then what is the point of them going out disciplining the public. I don’t think the public will ever trust them with their duties, because a bad picture has already been painted.

  • They should all be punished accordingly. Don’t even know their line of duties. What a shame!
