ELA Motors donated 700 face shields to the Western Highlands health authority on Friday to help in the fight against the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
The company, through JTM Australia, the manufacturer and distributor of 4WD equipment, presented the face shields to hospital staff to use when treating Covid-19 patients.
Ela Motors Mt Hagen branch manager John Ulu said the company was throwing its support to combat the spread of the Covid-19 by supporting front line workers.
He said the Covid-19 was here to stay and posed a threat to the health and life of everyone.
“We want to see the number of Covid-19 patients fall and the best way is to help healthcare workers.”
Ulu said Ela Motors had, earlier, donated two generators to the provincial health authority to use in their rural outreach programmes since 2019. Mt Hagen Hospital Dr Jonah Kurubi thanked Ela Motors for the donations and said the hospital had recorded four new cases recently.
“The face shields are needed to safeguard our health workers who attend to and treat those infected,” he said.
“The Covid-19 cases were going down but the recent reports of confirmed patients show the fight against the virus is far from over.”
