MONI Plus, formerly Tamaraws, have welcomed back Gabriel Elavo, pictured, as they prepare for the Papua New Guinea Men’s Basketball League season which starts next month.
Elavo won several premierships with the KSS Flames before deciding to return to his former club.
“Moni Plus coach Boyet Daroya helped me out a lot as a player, so I have to give back by playing under him again,” he said
“Moni Plus have a culture of making it to the grand final every season since they joined the competition while I was a junior with the club.
“I had the privilege of playing alongside and against my grandfather, Bernard, uncles, Harold Elavo, Eric Elavo and Joe Stoney, and currently with cousin Dondon Elavo.
“I also chose to come back to Moni Plus because of the between my family.”
Elavo thanked the Flames for looking after him during his years with the club.
“The KSS Flames are an organised club,” he said.
“They put the players’ welfare first in terms of looking after them financially and taking care of them in any way the management can.
“It is a club that is built around strong principles like discipline, respect and most importantly giving glory back to God for all the blessings.”
Flames manageress Vonnie Kapi Natto said they respected Elavo’s decision to part ways.
“We will greatly miss his services, but we wish him all the best in his new endeavours,” she said.
Daroya commended Elavo for returning to Moni Plus.
“He is a plus for the team as we prepare for the season,” the former PNG men’s assistant coach said.
“Our aim is to put up a strong team against the other clubs.”
