THE Lutheran church in PNG has not made a stand on homosexuality and gay marriages despite them being a worldwide issue, a church follower says.
Bataning Hauruhu of Bumayong in Lae, said that on Tuesday following a call last week by graduating students of the Martin Luther Seminary.
The seminary is jointly administered by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea (ELC-PNG) and the Gutnius Lutheran church.
Hauruhu said the church should stick to what the Bible says about same sex marriages – it was against God’s Word.
He said while other churches had compromised on the issues by recognising marriages by people of the same sex, he urged the Lutheran church not to embrace any form of homosexuality or
gay marriages.
He said Lutheran church leaders should stand firm on what the Bible said.
“Church of Jesus Christ’s greatest commission here on earth is to testify (to) and uphold the truth and nothing but the truth from God’s holy Word,”
Hauruhu said.
He said now was the time for the church to make a stand.
