Election pay: One year later

Letters

IT is now a year since last year’s general election and many temporary election workers are still waiting for their allowances to be paid.
It is frustrating to travel to the provincial capital only to be told that there is no money.
It appears to be the norm that the Electoral Commission is unable to satisfactorily meet all budgeted items in all elections.
It has happened again and will happen over and over again. It’s plain madness.
What happened to the strict procurement and control measures put in place before the elections?
All outstanding allowances owed to election workers should be paid from the millions budgeted for the local level government elections which have now been deferred.
The Electoral Commissioner needs to make sure this happens before the year ends.
People in Morobe and elsewhere who are owed money for their election work last year should speak out before the fire goes off completely.
Transparency International should intervene.
Over to you Electoral Commission.
