Electorate least developed

Letters

AITAPE-LUMI is on the verge of becoming the least developed electorate in the country.
The electorate is made up of mostly the remains of colonial past and the post-independence era.
The development progress of this electorate has been on a snail’s pace for the last 20 years.
With deteriorating road condition, rundown airstrips, unimproved rural health services and facilities, rundown educational facilities such as classrooms; we have never seen true tangible development since then.
The only wharf that serves the people of Aitape-Lumi is about to fall into the sea.
You will hardly see an airplane or a passenger ship in Aitape.
When are we going to change? What are the things that need to be changed?
How is it that the change is going to happen?
Who’s going to do it?
Who is responsible for all these problems?
These are some of the questions that needs to be answered.
Many may say it’s the responsibility of the mandated leader or MP of this electorate. Others might say the provincial administrator and his officers are not performing their duties.
I for one believe that the answer lies with the people.
The future of Aitape-Lumi does not belong to us.
It belongs to those who are coming after us.
When are we going to break this silence?
I challenge the educated elites of Aitape-Lumi to come out and exercise your democratic rights and freedom of speech.
Let us help save Aitape-Lumi from the brink of falling.

  • There is a territorial spirit that gives coverage to the people of West Sepik including Aitape Lumi, the people of Lumi need rise up like Gideon, destroying that Alter, that was built by their ancestors, complete destruction into alters, so that their eyes can be open to see to shifting to the next level….

If we dont we will still remain in the same level for generation to come……
