ELEMETARY school teachers in the Transgogol local level government in Madang are preparing to welcome the education reform next year.

Thirty-five teachers from elementary schools in Lagogen, Barum, Marik, Tadup and Bauri attended a week-long training programme that ended last Friday at Burowa village behind the Tapo Mountains.

Madang provincial standards officer Timothy Jessem, who facilitated the training, said it was a mixture of standard-based curriculum awareness.

Jessem said the Government had made the decision to reform the education system in 2015 from Grade 1 upwards.

He said elementary teachers would be engaged in early childhood education that would be constructed in the elementary school setting.

Madang District education director John Kim said if there was going to be a change in the education reform, the teachers would need all the training they could get to equip themselves.

“I’m working on a programme to make sure all groups of teachers get the required training,” Kim said.

He encouraged the teachers to commit their time to teaching.

“Training is one thing and implementing is another, I hope you implement what you learn,” Kin said.

Jessem said more elementary school teachers would attend a six-week course at the Madang Teachers’ College from Aug 4.

He said some teachers from Transgogol Elementary School would be selected to attend that.

Madang town manager Lau Sorum, who hails from the area, said villagers were known to associate themselves in crimes and encouraged people there to make use of the schools in the area.

Sorum said only educated people would help change the surrounding communities.
