ELEVEN adults were among a group of 49 Grade 8 students who graduated from the Gabensis Primary School in the Wampar LLG, Huon district, Morobe.
They created history in the Morobe and Papua New Guinea and were part of an initial group of 55. They struggled to pass with Grade Eight and basic computing certificates.
Head master Isaac Dau said times had changed in information technology and the school was privileged to accommodate and try out the new course.
He said it was in line with the provincial education department’s vision to implement IT courses in schools.
He said the computers donated by Lae Builders Company had helped the students and teachers in their work and paved way for the Education Department to come in and trial the course there.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Robert Elastus thanked the school board of management for giving them a golden second chance.
He said although they had only finished grade 6 and were married with children, they were happy to go back to school because education was life.
“We have made it to the finishing line,” he said.
He encouraged young students to persevere in their studies.
