THE Chinese embassy in Port Moresby has assured Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Ltd that it will support its nickel project in Madang during this difficult period.
Hao Lijun, Secretary to the ambassador in PNG, said this when expressing it condolences to the deceased Chinese employees following the incident at Ramu NiCo’s Basamuk refinery recently.
He died and two locals were injured while conducting a High Pressure Acid Leach (HPAL) pre-heating task using high pressure steam.
On his visit to the site last Wednesday, Hao said the embassy was concerned about the fatality and injuries and assured Ramu NiCo that the embassy would try to assist when the commodity price was low.
“Is is not easy for the company to reach above 90 per cent since load commission in 2012 in spite of the depressing nickel market. We are fully aware of the situation the project encounters,” Hao said.
