TARI-Pori MP James Marape has urged the people of Hela to embrace education and church activities to change the way they view things.
Marape was the guest at the United Church golden jubilee celebration at the Hoiebia Mission station in the Tari-Pori district.
He told the people that they must pray and help maintain peace in their communities.
Marape said people must leave political, tribal and church differences aside and work in unity to make the province a peaceful place as developments thrived when there was peace.
“When there is peace, developments will take place and we cannot continue to fight each other and delay service delivery,” he said.
“I am ready to work with churches and will support churches, education, strengthen police manpower to brush aside negativity in the province.”
Marape said when he became a MP 10 years ago, people agreed to live peacefully with 28 tribal fights stopped and people surrendering weapons.
“There are still tribal fights (today) and I am wondering if I have not performed my duty as expected,” he said.
“As it says in the Bible, there will be difficult times in the last days, and we as Christians must pray and work for unity.
“God is watching and we must not complain or fight back. The good Lord will do things his way.”
Bishop Wai Tege said the church would initiate, administer and manage development activities in partnership with the government and development agencies.
