THE article, “Mendi hosts successful cultural show”, showed us the way to preserve our culture (Dec 24).

While the totem pole is being removed from parliament, Southern Highlands  showed  us  the way to preserve our culture and traditions, thanks to Richard Awesa.

At  a time when Southern Highlands is riddled with  news of drug and alcohol abuse, the cultural show has brought some light in the dark.

The show has given another option for youth and drug abusers to meaningfully engage themselves in giving the real version of SHP.

Richard Awesa is commended in all terms to go out of his own way to provide solution rather than talking about the problems of drug abuse.

His solution to engage youths in cultural shows will help minimise the problem because some cultural practises can help discipline our youth.

Such initiative needs support from the community and the government.

Thus, it was good to see that the government, Hela governor  and  works minister and member for Imbonggu, saw the importance of engaging our youths to bring back Southern Highlands  to  be a tourism hub.
